Year 3 and 4
Opportunities abound at Kalamunda Christian School. Our classrooms are places of interest, friendship, order, respect and hard work. The classroom forms a safe place for students to feel excited about learning, make mistakes and grow as individuals. Within this supportive and challenging environment, students feel a strong sense of belonging and purpose.
There is a major focus on each student to acquire a solid understanding of literacy and numeracy skills. Added to this, creativity and critical thinking are key components of the rich and varied curriculum offered with an emphasis on students becoming increasingly independent learners.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is used as a tool, integrated into the curriculum through the use of Interactive Whiteboards and notebook computers from Year 3 to Year 6. ICT is a powerful medium to bring the outside world into the classroom.
In addition to providing students with great opportunities for academic success, we encourage each student to partake in a vast range of extra-curricular activities, including interschool sport, house carnivals, chess club, and many more. We aspire to develop their sporting ability whilst instilling attitudes of sportsmanship to ensure they have the skills and attitudes to be good ambassadors of our sports club, the KC Saints.
In Year 3 our students may choose to participate in the junior choir. In Year 4 they have the opportunity to participate in the senior choir, subsidised music lessons and be part of the training band ensemble.
Programmes focusing on positive social and play skills assist students to develop healthy friendships and make effective contributions to group activities.
There is continuity from the junior years to ensure a progression of skills and concepts with clear lines of development. Our desire is to develop and maintain a life-long enthusiasm and love of learning.
