Book Week Character Parade - Thursday 22 August

The theme for Book Week 2019 is ‘Reading is My Secret Power’.

The date for Book Week this year is from 17 - 23 August. Each year, many schools and libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators.

At Kalamunda Christian School we will be celebrating with a Book Week dress up day and character parade. All students are encouraged to dress up as a favourite book character and parents are invited to attend as follows:

When: Thursday 22 August
Who: Pre-primary to Year 6
Time: 8:45am
Where: Parade in the school grounds (weather permitting) and gym
Wear: Book character costume

Our fantastic teachers will present a drama from a children’s book story after the parade in the school gym. Parents are welcome to join the fun.

If any students choose not to dress as a book character, they can wear their normal school uniform. Please note that the costume does not need to be too elaborate. We would encourage parents to use dress-up clothes from home for the event.

Students need to be familiar with their character and the book from which it has been chosen. Children are welcome to bring their book along to school with them.

Kick Start and Kindergarten Dress Up Days

Our Kick Start and Kindergarten children are also invited to dress up for an in-class display of Book Week costumes as follows:

Kick Start A – Wednesday 21 August
Kick Start B – Thursday 22 August
Kindergarten – Friday 23 August

Selection of Characters

As a Christian community, we are asking parents to assist us in selecting appropriate characters that would complement our values and beliefs. We would ask that characters such as witches, wizards, ghosts or vampires be avoided, as these may offend people within our school family. If you are unsure and would like to clarify this further, please speak to your child’s teacher.

If it is practical for your child to stay in their dress-up costume for the day, they may do so. If it is necessary for them to change after the dress-up parade, please ensure they bring the appropriate full uniform required for the day.

Please feel free to contact the school office should you have any questions or need further clarification about the character parade.
