To link with our science topic ‘Fur, Feathers and Leaves’, Year 3 students of KCS and SHCC became ‘jungle adventurers’ for our combined WOW Day at Bungendore Park. We began with an energetic stroll through the parkland where we observed the remains of gumnuts scattered on the forest floor. We learned that black cockatoos leave evidence of their eating habits, giving us clues to determine which of the three species of black cockatoo found in WA has eaten in the area! Our bush walk was followed by an informative talk by Ron Johnstone – ornithologist and museum curator for many years. After lunch and a short play time at SHCC, we returned to school.
